Francesco Sapino
University of Salamanca, Faculty
Dr. Francesco Sapino earned a Bachelor’s degree in Energetic Engineering from the Polytechnic of Turin and a Baster’s degree in Environmental Economics (with honors) from the University of Turin. After a a visiting research period for his master’s thesis at the University of Salamanca (USAL), he joined the research group led by Dionisio Pérez-Blanco at USAL, initiating his Ph.D. in Economics. He successfully completed his doctoral degree with the “international mention”, the highest qualification (summa cum laude) and the extraordinary award, with a thesis titled “Sustainable water management in the agricultural sector under deep uncertainty”.
Throughout his Ph.D., Dr. Sapino completed visiting research periods at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, the IVM (Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam), and Fondazione CMCC in Venice, collaborating with other researchers to produce publications. Over the past four years, he has authored six papers, three as the first author in JCR Q1 journals, two as the second author in other JCR Q1 journals, and one as the first author in a JCR Q3 journal.
Dr. Sapino’s research concentrates on integrating human and natural systems within modeling frameworks. This approach considers the mutual evolution of these systems to prevent adverse effects that could arise from potential reciprocal interactions. The innovation in his methodology lies in addressing the concept of deep uncertainty, utilizing multi-model ensembles to inform robust policies under uncertainty. He is also intrigued by behavioral economics and aspires to incorporate this theory into agricultural modeling in the near future.
