Nelson Villarreal Duran, Philosopher, Political Scientist and Civil Servant.
Villarreal is The National Secretary of Human Rights for the Uruguayan Government. From 2005 to 2010 he was adviser to the Presidency of the Republic of Uruguay, Office of Budget and Planning. From 2006 to 2011, he acted as the Coordinator of the United Nations Pilot Program “United in Action”.
He is a Professor of sustainable development, political philosophy and globalization in the Catholic University of Uruguay. He is also a professor at the University of the Republic, Montevideo, Uruguay. The author of many scholarly articles in different media outlets, he is also an expert on Ethics and Development, and a member of the Red Iberoamaricana de Estudios de Desarrollo (RIED). He is also a member of RIDGE (Research Institute for Development, Growth, and Economics).
